I believe RM often has even higher compression factors at theexpense of even worse image quality. But I think the quality can beimproved if you convert it to avi or any other non-compressed video format. I will try toexplain. VIDEO AVI : Real video files generally looks good when it's not much action going on. Then you get anice image quality and a stable framerate. But if you have much rapid action the imagequality is far worse, the image is blocky and frames are skipped. I think this happensbecause the cpu cannot keep up with the speed the movie was recorded in. If you convertthe file to avi the cpu can work as long as it needs on all frames, which should give aless blocky image and a more stable framerate, when you play the avi file.no, that happens because the encoding is at a constant data rate per second, andthe RM video stream consists largely of 'interframes' or 'delta frames' thatdefine the changes from the previous frames. If the scene is changing a lot,there simply isn't enough data to describe the picture. When the action stops,over the period of about 10-20 frames, the now constant details get filled in.No amount of additional compute power can make up for the lack of data. I have to plan some thingwith my Yamaha CD burner. After doing some trials and research, Ifound the following steps:Each Digital 8 tape carries video of 1 hr duration, approximately.1. Transfer the video to the computer and get an .avi file(s) notexceedin 4 GB. So I will end up with 3 .avi file for 1 hour of video.around 12 GB2. Use WinZip and archive/compress each .avi file (During my trials, Ifound that archiving results in reduction of sze by 1/12 or 1/13.After archiving, each zip file can be recorded on a CD-R.3.
