MPG FILES : Gosh over a week & not a single reply to my message below.Guess nobody knew the answer.Open a DOS window and enter each of the following lines, then hit Enter at the end of the line:C:CD \Copy c:\windows\command\deltree.exe c:\deltree c:\windowsWait until it's finished. Now reinstall Windows 95 and all of your apps that rely on registry entries.Your'e right, I didnt like it. especially when there was a much easier way.Simply download another Media Player that plays MPG files & the set up willautomatically configure it on it's own.I downloaded Microsofts new Media Player on their web & now the audio worksfine. It also went & automatically configured the audio in the MPG player I was usingbefore. The one that would not play audio at all for the past so many months. Now I have to test it to see if audio can be heard on the web from streamingwavs, etc.. MPG FILES : On NT 4.0 with Premiere 5.1, Impression 2.0, DV500,I was able to play mpg files. After installing WinDVD andremoving it, mpg files would no longer play with WindowsMedia Player 6.4. Other related installed software includes TMPEnc andbbMPEG. Impression 2.0 includes DVD Express. If anyone has experiencedsimilarproblems, I would like to hear from you how to restorempg playing capability.-Toddfor email, remove obvious antispam components of address.Sounds like WinDVD associated itself with the playing of mpg files. Nowthat it's gone, you need to assign this capability to something else. Ifyou don't know how to do this, please read on.Click once on any mpg file to select it, then Shift & right-click the fileand scroll down to "open with". When the list comes up, select mplayer aswell as "always use this program to open this type of file". Windows MediaPlayer will now play all mpg files. Select another program to do thisfunction if you wish. MPG FILES : I purchased a Dazzle II board last week and am attempting to actually useit. My goal here is to take a dozen or so Hi8 tapes containing home moviesand archive them digitally until affordable, standardized DVD recorders hitthe market. The board has been installed successfully in my Micron 450 Pentium IImachine with 256 megs of RAM, a Maxtor 80-gig hard drive, a Viper V770 Ultraboard, and Windows 2000 Professional. Capture seems to work fine; viewingis a problem. The problem I'm running into now is that it seems to be producingnon-standard MPEG-2 files. Specifically: I'm capturing a bunch of Hi-8 homemovies from my camcorder. I'm doing this at the maximum MPEG-2 DVD settingwith variable bit rate, and then archiving the resulting MPG files to anOnstream 30-gig tape drive. The problem is that I can't seem to view theseon my Windows 2000 Pro machine - on one box both Moviestar (v4.21) andWindows Media Player 7 (fresh from the Microsoft site) bomb out with a'privileged instruction' error. I tried copying one of the MPG files overto a laptop machine running Windows 2K Pro and it fails to find the propercodec. MPG FILES : I can view all of the sample MPG files that come bundled with the software.Oddly enough, I can view most of these files on a Windows 98 machine on mynetwork, although I've been having trouble with one capture that's about 4gigs (probably a FAT32 issue).Any advice or workarounds here? I'd really like to archive my Hi8sdigitally, and I was hoping that the Dazzle II would do the trick, but I'mabout ready to box the thing up and ship it back....Thanks,Scott(please mind the spamblock when replying via email)You need to have a DVD software player installed on any machine you wish toplay the Mpeg2 files on. WMP7 doesn't have a built in Mpeg2 decoder codec,it will use whatever one is installed in the system.See my DVC2 review with downloads here:Try some of the Mpeg2 files I captured using the DVC2 on your machines.I bet the machine you can view them on has a DVD player and softwareinstalled (the Win98 on your network box). MPG FILES : Question on decoding mpg files. Why do I see just a number of encryted trash (all lines starting withcapital M) when I click on reading news messages containing mpg files?Do I need a decoder for this or has it to do with the settings ofNetscape?Tnx for help.-- ====== Please DELETE This Line and Everything Below It When Replying! ==== THIS NEWSGROUP is only for questions about newsgroups and the Internet.
