MPEG FILES : Sounds like you have tried just about everything and have yet to finda seamless way of joining MPEG files. That's not good news.My real problem is that using the LSX and Panasonic MPEG plugins toPremiere, I am unable to export timelines longer than about 18 minutesto DVD- or to VCD-compliant MPEG. (The first 18 minutes of theexported MPEG file is fine, but then the screen turns white. The soundcontinues for a while, then stops. The same timeline exports to DVtape without difficulty.)This means that to export longer timelines to MPEG in order to burnthem to a DVD, SVCD, or VCD, I currently have to export the timelinein pieces. If I could properly join the pieces back together afterexporting them, I could presumably burn the joined files. But it seemsthat joining MPEG files is not a trivial matter -Needless to say, I would much rather find out why I can't exportPremiere timelines longer than 18 minutes to MPEG. Seems to me thatthat ought not be the case. One should be able to export longertimelines not only to DV Tape but to MPEG. MPEG FILES : I recently bought a Broadway video capture card with a version of MediaStudio (5VE) bundled. I was disappointed that the software is not capavbleof editing mpeg files. The card is being used in a school so that studentscan begin to learn about editing video content. There is no way we can havefull frame .avi files flying around the network - too much bandwidth and toomuch storage space needed. I have found a simple video editor for mpegfiles (iFilmEdit) which is great - but there are no transition effectsavailable.Anyone recommend a low cost video editing program that can handle mpeg filesand also use a small number of transitions - also adding titles etc.....Help gratefully received.Ulead Video Studio 3 does MPEG and has basic transition, titling, voice annotation, etc features. And since it's Ulead's low end video editing program, it's aimed at beginners with ease of use features and a lower price than the higher end stuff that does more. MPEG FILES : Also, you can use Microsoft's free software (On-Demand Producer) will convert AVI's to ASF files. Based on my experience with Ulead Video Studio and On-Demand Producer, ASF files are made about 5 times faster than MPEG (MPEG-1) files, and the quality of an ASF file is about equivalent to that of an MPEG file that's twice its size. (using the default Microsoft MPEG4 Ver 3 video encoder and default audio encoder). I say "based on my experiences with Ulead Video Studio" because I'm well aware that MPEG encoding software is not created equal, so there might be encoders out there that are both faster and give better quality than what's included with Video Studio 3.I haven't played with On-Demand Producer too much yet, except for converting AVI's, but I don't think it has nearly the editing features (adding titles, transitions, etc) as Video Studio does. MPEG FILES : Erik Harris http://w3.to/erik ICQ: 2610172Chinese Martial Arts Assoc @ Cornell: http://w3.to/CMAAC/To avoid Spam-bots, my address at the top is INCORRECT.Change the underscore to an "o".Ulead VideoStudio 3 uses SmartRender technology to edit MPEG files. It justcopies frames of video that are edited and only decodes and recompressesframes that are edited. Examples of frames necessary to recompress includethose with titles added or transition effects.MediaStudio Pro version 5 will edit MPEG files but more slowly since theSmartRender in it is the last implementation and will recompress all MPEGframes. The SmartRender in MSP5 work great for AVI files.I believe that Adobe Premiere 5.0 and the newest Ulead and MGI editorscan open mpeg-1. They also come with Plugins to save back out asMpeg-1. Otherwise you could do just the transitions in Media Studio, convert then to mpeg with avi2mpg and assemble them in ifilmedit.Just a thought MPEG FILES : On Sun, 13 Jun 1999 18:52:02 +0100, "Keith Parry" wrote:Hi, could I get some opinions on what program is best for simpleMPEG1 editing? I have some large (500MB) MPEG1 files that Ineed to remove portions from, some bits at the beginning or endand others are in the middle.I've tried the program bundled with my old capture card (iFilmEdit)and it's a royal POS. It crashes all the time and there's not even anundo function. Is there something (preferably free/shareware) that actually works?PapaJohn, I have a question. True, Virtual Dub accepts MPEG1 input, butonly output AVI.Also, did I read something about using Virtual Dub as a server to anotherprogram to convert the AVI back to MPEG1?I have the same problem, and and looking for the same answers the originalposter. My input is .dat (VCD) files, but I understand they're the same asMPG1.
