MPEG ENCODER : Can't wait to give this baby a spin. Maybe I can ditch avisynth, Premiere Video Server, LSX stand-alone and TMPGEnc once and for all! My results so far of testing the new LSX MPEG Encoder for Adobe Premiere: 1. The resize algorithm either still uses Premiere’s resize capabilities or is not as good as the resize algorithm in the stand-alone encoder. This makes it unsuitable for producing interlaced VCDs or SVCDs. 2. The Simple VBR preset produces outstanding results for MPEG-2 to be viewed on a computer (separate MPEG-2 decoder obviously required for playback) 3. There is no apparent speed advantage with the plug-in compared to the stand-alone encoder. Rigorous stopwatch testing has not and will not be done. 1. The new LSX MPEG Encoder for Adobe Premiere is not worth the difference in price between it and the stand-alone LSX MPEG Encoder (Special limited time offer included). It is definitely not a bargain compared to either the free or full version of TMPGEnc. MPEG ENCODER : 2. My testing of the suitability for SVCD of both TMPGEnc and the LSX MPEG Encoder 3.5 has been extensive. I recommend frame serving the Premiere timeline to either one of these encoders. The Ligos encoder handles very difficult clips (high motion, many fine details) better than TMPGEnc and is faster. Considering my lousy camera work, I use the Ligos encoder almost exclusively these days. TMPGEnc is the equal or better of the Ligos encoder in all other situations. To get the best results, both stand-alone encoders require extensive tweaking and testing. The advantage that Ligos holds is in its help file. Studying the help file will cut down on setup errors significantly. Not so with either version of TMPGEnc. 3. The stand-alone LSX encoder is equal or better to the new LSX plug-in encoder when creating Simple VBR MPEG-2s for computer display MPEG ENCODER : Jeff, I just bought the LSX plug-in a few minutes ago. Did I make a mistake? I have a Canon XL1s and I was hoping the the LSX plug-in would solve my compression artifact problems I have been having. KevDepends. What were you using to compress your video before? What are you trying to create as your end product? For DVD MPEG-2 creation, I suspect the plug-in encoder will make you a very happy camper. For VCD or SVCD, you may or may not run into the difficulties I did. I'm holding off buying it for now because of the issues I mentioned in my last post. Be aware, my specific needs are very narrow in scope; the LSX encoder is capable of handling a much wider range of tasks. You will probably find enough uses for the encoder that you will ultimately feel the money was well spent. MPEG ENCODER : Hello, I am a VB programmer now stuck in the DLL. My situation is thatI am currently developing a VB program that will control the hardware( aMpeg encoder card) to response the user's need or input. Since VB is notcapable of controlling hardware, what I am doing is to get control of MyMpeg card through a dll I wrote myself. However, one major problem appeared. The problem is that when Iinitiate my Mpeg encoder card and give a command to activate and encode datathrough it, the Mpeg encoder card driver will actually post customizedWM_#####messages to my VB program's AP queue that notifies me the status of mydecoder, say ,every 300 milliseconds so that I can get the message and identify thestatusof my mpeg encoder card. My idea is since VB program is not capable of intercepting and gettingmessages sent by my Mpeg driver, I may ,through the dll, get those messagesand thencallback to my VB program to show the current Mpeg encoder status. It works.I did getthose messages in my dll but my VB program got stuck because of apeekMessage loop notreturning the control back to my VB program . what I need (I assumed ) is that is there any way to execute my dllpeekMessageloop while my VB program can still be work and not getting stuck ? I havebeen stuck inthis for 2 weeks reading through MSDN documents but still find no soloution. Can anybodyhelp or give me some suggestion how or where I should do/look for. Thank youvery much.Any idea or suggestion is most appreciated. MPEG ENCODER : As the matter of fact, Visual Basic _is_ capable of interceptingwindow messages. You simply have to subclass the windowwhere the messages are sent to.We have a tutorial on that explains how to subwlass windows, using VB.Hi Pieter, Thanks. Thank you very much. With your advice , I have finallyintercepted the VB message successfullyusing the subclassing technique. Thank you ,Richard Musil, CraigWimpenny,Johan Rosengren and all peoplewho read my post and give me advice. Thank you.If I'm understanding correctly, you have a message processing loop in a dllthat makes callbacks to your VB app. Is that correct? If so, are youcreating a new thread to execute the dll function? I'm trying to figure outif your VB app's message queue is being flooded so that it can't react touser input or if you have only one thread of execution (which woulddefinitely prevent the VB app from responding.) I'm not a VB programmer butI assume you can create multiple threads in VB.
