Just hit the play button and off you go.My major concern against a MPEG 2 card in a PC is that you aredependent on a PC with Windows 98. PC's tend to crash when youdon't want them to. Windows 98 might also swap a lot of data to theharddisk (which might cause some stuttering). I still usethe DVDROM for the SEs of some newer DVDs such as The Matrix, Lost inSpace, You've Got Mail, etc but watch all the main features on the bigscreen DVD MPEG : Reasons:a. Next Gen ICsThe new Sony DVD players seem to have much better video processorsthan the older Encore card. This might not be very obvious whenwatching DVDs but with VCDs, the capabilities of the nexgen ICs comeacross a lot better. I could see the pixellation on my FRIENDS VCDs(originals) in the past, but with my new Sony, the quality looksincredibly good.. almost (just almost) DVD quality!!!b. Component video outputsc. DTS supportThe Encore Dxr2 does not support any of these two functions. Iunderstand the Hollywood can be hacked to support DTS yet (no firsthand experience tho)e. remote controlThe remote is more handy than you think.. Imagine watching the WhiteRabbit feature in the Matrix.. and hunting for the mouse/keyboard inthe split second the icon appears!!!I find myself rewind bits of the movie quite frequently to catch somedialogue I had missed DVD MPEG : The fact is with some software DVD players on the PC, you are prettymuch in the dark where to click unless you have a monitor hooked up aswell.Artifacts show up in DVD's as pixelization of the picture either in total orin certain areas of the picture. Artifacts are caused by missing orincorrect data, and result from the DVD working with what it has. This canbe from a poorly mastered DVD, a dirty DVD, or a DVD player that is allowingthe data to overrun and thus be lost.A good MPEG2 card in a PC might be able to keep up, depending on the design.First, the computer needs to be able to handle it. Then the card needs tobe able to handle it. Look for a MPEG2 card that has an on-board processorand doesn't rely on the host computers CPU. Then either the output comes offthe card, or a feature connector connects the card to the video card. Ifthe data has to go through the computer's bus, it won't be fast enough tokeep up with a full screen movie unless it is a very fast machine.Otherwise MPEG2 is MPEG2. If it can decode it, it should work.
