DIVX MOVIES : On or about Thu, 08 Apr 1999 22:20:00 -0500, the suspect, Gwill, confessed to the following crimes:i guess digitali has made it his personal goal to badmouth circuitcity and divx, and call every costumer ignorant and misinformed. whata noble cause. please explain what sound capabilities a divx player loses over a dvdplayer. also, please enlighten me on why (someone, i forgot who)stated that the picture quality on a divx suffers in comparison tothat of a dvd player. from what i am aware of, it makes no difference unless u have an HDTV.From: ()Subject: Re: FS : DIVX Movies Newsgroups: Date: 1999/04/14 well hooray for digitali. I personally don't need the details explained. Ithought the point of advancing technology was more bang, less buck. Not theother way around.Well, as the saying goes, "A Yak by any other name..."DIVX needs a man-beating, IMO, but to each his own. Here is a site you may want to check out concerningDIVX and its inherent caveats: DIVX MOVIES : As far as your post, what will suffer most is your net worth.DIVX is not on your side, and is deserving of being bashed by thebuying public.well i certainly dont like the idea of something i did invest money inbeing against me. but i have been looking into the drawbacks of divx,so i think ill go up to circuit city and have some fun with the salespeople explaining to them why divx shouldn't be sold. maybe they willfeel a pang a quilt on their conscience next time they tell a customer"it sure beats dvd if u ask me".From: ()Subject: Re: FS : DIVX Movies Newsgroups: Date: 1999/04/16 Are you saying that after all of this you are now an informedconsumer? Cool, the time wasn't wasted. . .On or about Fri, 16 Apr 1999 05:50:47 GMT, the suspect, (BASSik), confessed to the following crimes:Circuit City has made it their practice of misinformingthe customer on DUMX with such statements as "all of thehottest new releases" and "enhanced DVD". DIVX MOVIES : As for picture quality, some people say that the watermarkingused can slightly degrade the picture. But big deal. It's already a non-widescreen movie with none of the extra featuresof DVD. And have you seen the latest DUMX releases? They're great if you need to see "Baby Boom" and"Sixteen Candles" for the millionth time.to tell the truth, in addition to the 5 free divx movies we got whenwe purchased the player, i only got 2 others i think. i have noticedthat the selection of divx movies is far less than that of dvd movies.however i assumed since this is a relatively new technology, moremovies will be made for it as time goes on. what i am not clear about is does the picture degradation occur on alldvd movies watched on a divx machine, or just the divx disksthemselves. also, about the sound, i own 007 Goldeneye, (the full dvdmovie), and it sounds really great running through our 500 wattpioneer receiver w/2 rear, 1 center, 2 front speakers and a 12"subwoofer, in dolby digital. so i assume the remark about sound lossconcerns only divx movies, regardless of the player. DIVX MOVIES : I can't find what's wrong, but the newest divx files play too fast. I can'tsolve this problem. Anyone have a suggestion?Got the right version of the codecs installed for a play back/I've installed the latest codecs 5.05I've downloaded the movies in different newsgroupsI've problems with playing the divx 5.05 files, I can see them but they playtoo fast. The timer goes 2, 4, 6 secs etc.I've tried different players.I think I've found the cause of the problem. The clips are in ntsc format (29,97 fps) and the players I use (WMediaplayer9, WinDVD) want PAL format (25 fps). Is that possible? G-spot tells me thatI've installed all the right codecs to play the clips. When I play clipswith a Pal format nothing is wrong. How can I change the format from ntsc in PAL?I've got a divx file which I got on the net which is in 23.976 so (NTSC)Played it in Mediaplayer9 and no problems?? DIVX MOVIES : Thanks for a polite reply Mike, and yes I know it's 29.97fps, but it wasshorter to type 29fps.Just in case there are others out there trying to convert NTSC DVDs to PALor maybe just trying to make 29.97fps divx files into PAL DVD-Rs, here ishow I finally did it without wrecking the audio sync:First, you need VirtualDub and you will need AC3machine and BeSweet too.Make sure it's settings to "full processing mode" for video and audiostreams.Next, press CTRL+R (or go to Video Menu > Frame Rate Menu) and select:This will change the framerate from 29.97fps to 23.796, and guess what guys!It does it WITHOUT affecting the audio synchronisation. All you need to do now is set the resize in VDub to PAL resolution(important if using CCE and divx source files) and save the file as an .AVIfor conversion with TMPGEnc to PAL DVD (or start the frame server and let
