DIVX CODECS : I'm having trouble with Win XP Pro and the above mentioned codecs.I was using DivX 4.11 fine, for the most part, up until now. Then my friendgave me an .avi file. He said I'd need DivX 5.0 to watch it, so I got it.Thing is, after I installed DivX 5.0, *none* of my videos (not even the onehe sent me) would play. I'd get sound, but no video.I uninstalled it, and re-installed DivX 4.11, but I *still* get no video!I've tried downloading every codec that I could find, but to no avail.Get new friends."SentientFluid" wrote in message...Alternatively:Start>Settings>Contr ol Panel>Multimedia>Devices>DivX 5.0 Codec>Properties>Do not map through thisdeviceWelcome to the world of Windows, where if you can't fix it by rebootingor reinstalling you're SOL.Divx 5 can be bad that way. Chances are you also installed somethingelse in the package that you don't need or want, like a smoothing filteror a graphics card dependent codec. DIVX CODECS : I don't know the solution to your specific problem, but generally speakingyou should install Divx 5 first, then install your other codecs afterwards. The reason is that the Divx 5 installer will set up the Divx 5 codec toalso play divx 3 and 4 files, which you don't want because it's a pig. Also, if you're installing a codec pack that includes lots of features, don't just select them all. Some of them can be counter-productive.If you really uninstalled *all* codecs and related stuff, you should havegot your performance back after reinstalling. That's why I think somethinggot left over.Somewhere under the system settings menu there should be a multimediaconfiguration tool that will let you set codec priorities and disableindividual sound and video codecs. I don't use XP myself so I don't knowexactly where it is, but under '95 and '98 it's in the control panel. DIVX CODECS : Hi,I installed this codec to view some mpeg4 clips but now allaudio/video playback with win mplayer becomes choppy. tried touninstall it but had no effect. do i need the "tools" as decribedbelow? greenhorn here :Hi,>I installed this codec to view some mpeg4 clips but now all>audio/video playback with win mplayer becomes choppy. tried to>uninstall it but had no effect. do i need the "tools" as decribed>below? greenhorn here :>thanks.>>KP>>(mental note: stay away from alphas!!)>>[snipped - u dont have to post the release notes]What's yr PC power? Pentium II onwards, P-III++ recommended if u wantfull screen playback. No u dont need those extra tools. They are DVD ripping tools. Are usure u got the DivX codecs fr the original site? The site u mentionedis no longer operative for awhile. And it dont have no rippingtoolkits. Site have since moved to the OpenDivx site. Google it if uwant.
