You need a specialized software solution and a fast computer, or aslower computer with MPEG2 hardware assist.The VCD standard is around a 1500kb/s bitrate. That's a great bitrate fortrading files over the internet. While staying within the MPEG 1 standard,you can get up to 3000-4000kb/s without dropping frames on most computers.The higher bitrate will give you enough detail to bump up to a higherresolution. But the higher bitrate will also restrict you to high speedconnections only.FYI. Hi, Tom. I'm still excited just to find out that I can make anmpeg 1 that *compares* to the *other* internet video formats. Please, let me dig myself in deeper ;-) I found out many moons ago that if I capture a kite video at a very slowframe rate, I could encode them to very slow bitrates with tools like theWindows Media tools or the old Real Producer, and they still looked *okay*...and much better than trying to encode a higher frame rate. My humbleguess, with layperson's terms is because each frame *hung* longer and didn'trequire as much clarity as one that extremely quickly zips by at a highframe rate. But... experimenting with a few of the *common* mpeg encoders, I was neverable to open a video source _to_ encode, unless it was captured at theproper mpeg 1 frame rates. With that tmpegENC proggie, ( ) you _can_ open avideo captured at any frame rate. It ends up (the output) being a standardframe rate, like 29 or 30 fps, (or whatever) but since each of the originalframes are actually showing at a much slower rate, you can reduce thebitrates down to very small file sizes. BTW, that is the *battle* I have chosen to fight. I enjoy making videosthat people with 56K modems can download, and I like the challenge ofkeeping my web space down to *a minimum*, i.e., the clearer but smaller thevideo, the better :-)
