Any leads will be greatly appreciated.I too want to convert from AVI to MPEG, but in the absence ofa nice converter program/utility, I go through the followingto convert:1) Capture your favorite video sequence ;-)2) Use the MS Windoze "VidEdit" application to dump a .DIB sequence (ie; each individual frame from the file get's put into it's own .DIB (Microsoft Device Independent Bitmap) file.3) Use HiJak Pro for Windoze to convert all the .DIB's to .PCX'es (ie; command-mode, RTFM)4) Move the .PCX's to Unix/Linux5) Use PBMPlus to convert all the .PCX's to .PPM (Portable PixMap)6) Feed the (sometimes large) collection of .PPM's to your favorite MPEG encoder (ie; Berkeley MPEG encoder, toe.cs.berkeley.edu:/pub/multimedia/mpeg , etc). Or, you could have made them YUV files (w/ sub-sampled Cr & Cb) and avoid the PPM stage...7) Microwave some popcorn :)8) Watch the MPEG video sequence... AVI TO MPEG CONVERTER : Hope this helps. Both PBMPlus and theBerkeley MPEG encoder are available for OS/2. A week ago, I usedthis method to create an MPEG from Postscript files (using Ghostscript to convert them to .PPM's) with my 486. It workedgreat but it did take a long time (many bags of popcorn). You might even be able to drop step 3 (HiJak) if you can convertthe AVI images directly to something that PBMPlus supports, such asTarga or PCX.Anyone know of any AVI to MPEG conversion programs?
