AVI PLAYERS : And yes, I saw the announcement for the AVIplayer demo, but it only plays 10 seconds of the movie (it's about 90secs probably), and I can't justify paying 30 pounds just to be able to play one movie. The old version of AVIplayer (from hensa) falls over probably because it can't handle sound. So, anyone know of any free (or cheap) AVI players for the Arch?Fraid not. As far as I am aware, we have the only AVI player aroundfor the Arc. 26.42 is not a lot when you consider that the programmerhas had to spend the past 2 years pouring over films trying to deducethe film format from that... The specs aren't published anywhere... Failing that, anyone got a Replay version of Babylon 5 second season intro sequence????I doubt it. It costs 100 quid a minute for Replay compression...doesnt acorn sell a package that lets you create your own replaysequences? In which case a cost per minute becomes hard to calculate AVI PLAYERS : All you need is the Replay DIY board from Uniqueway (plus their Empireor Eidos software) or the Eagle MkII board with their Take 2 software. They both cost around 300-400 UKP.As some of you may have seen, the quality of Replay files that you cando with these boards is superb. The Real2Reel Replay (not sure if it's on the net yet) was done using aReplay DIY board + Empire and the Guiness one was done using an EagleMkII + Take 2.If someone had the Babylon 5 series 2 opening sequence on NTSC VHS thenit'd be easy to Replay using one of the above boards and a dual-standardsPAL/NTSC VCR. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------The Eagle M2 card, as sold by Computer Concepts, contains the Eidos ESCaPEsoftware (recently upgraded) and supports real time capture and compressionof Replay movies (type 102). AVI PLAYERS : The Eagle M2 card, as sold by Computer Concepts, contains the Eidos ESCaPE software (recently upgraded) and supports real time capture and compression of Replay movies (type 102). Compression is not only free, but also real time. -- Stephen StreaterSeriously though, I wasn't trying to denegrate Replay or the variouscompression schemes available for it - my point was that if you wentto somewhere like Uniqueway, and asked to get a film compressed bythem they will charge around the 100 quid a minute mark. (Reductionsare available for bulk/your mileage may vary/etc)At this sort of price there are not that many sources of cheap clipart... Hopefully this will change as the CC/EIDOS boards become morewidespread, but until then AVI movies are a good cheap/free, commonsource of multimedia clip art.But the video typically costs 25.00 per second to buy the rights to - so even!way's compression is quite cheap really. In fact, none of my PC owning friends have evenheard of AVI, let alone have a player for it, which seems to suggestit isn't a very common format (of course, I could be wrong).# # Failing that, anyone got a Replay version of Babylon 5 second season# intro sequence????# # I doubt it.
