AVI MOVIES : MS Internet Explorer comes with standard support for AVI movies. It'sthe only reason to keep it around. Hmmmm, as much as I DON'T like Microsloth, I might just try outthe Explorer then. ESPECIALLY if it's more stable. The one thing I can'tstand is that Netscape keeps crashing on me all the time. AVI MOVIES : I have recently discovered using AVI movies in director 5 to speed upanimations and fades etc, but I have this one annoying problem. The AVImovie plays properly when I double click it in the cast, but as soon as Itry the score it just stops on the first few frames and won't play. In havetried in betweening and tempo settings and none work, I have also downloadedthe latest director update so now I have version 5.01 but that didn't help.What am I doing wrong because this is really annoying and I have spent hoursjust trying to get the movies to play.To expand on my previous message, I have tried all methods of playing theAVI movie including the tempo one to play the whole movie. My AVI movieswhich I created from director and exported play fine in media player, evenwhen I double click the cast, as soon as they go into the score the firstfew frames play and then it just pauses even if the tempo tells it tocontinue until the end. AVI MOVIES : Normally it's possible to play Video for Windows (.AVI) media inDirector 5.0.1 for Windows. There are, however, many factors that canaffect digital video performance. Based on the information provided, Idon't know what you may have different there, and so can't recommend aspecific solution, regrets.The kind of troubleshooting I'd recommend would be to do additionalisolation and substitution tests to try to narrow things down a bit. Forexample:- Test against other known-good .AVI files from other sources (including.AVI files with significantly lower data rates.)- Test in new, barebones movies that include nothing except an .AVIsprite.- Refer to the digital video authoring and troubleshooting info inTechNote #12109 at:- Test for configuration issues (SVGA video device driver conflicts,sound card driver conflicts, etc.)- Likewise, test against another machine.The above will either point to a cause or solution, or at least allowyou to ask a more specific question. If I try to useMicrosoft RLE compression I get the message "An error occurred whileexporting frames to the AVI file. Director may be low on memory or theselected disk may be full." This is not the case though, because I have 64Mb of ram and in excess of 200Mb on my hard disk. This happens even with anAVI as small as 5Mb. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might begoing on, or what I am doing wrong? AVI MOVIES : The most common cause of an "out of memory" error when exporting to .AVIusing the RLE codec is using a monitor color depth other than 8-bit(because the RLE codec requires 8-bit, 256 color mode). This isdescribed in TechNote #12137 at:As for the other export codecs you've used, have you tried performingtest exports while using Microsoft's generic SVGA video device driversetting (256 color mode)? If this works, that would tend to indicate aconflict with whatever SVGA driver you're currently using. SVGA driverconflicts are by far the most common cause of system errors underWindows. At this distance, though, I can say what you may have differentfrom other users, regrets.== Peter DeCrescenzo, Macromedia Technical Support, San Francisco, CAI have discovered a strange thing with my AVI's, (Your probably tired ofthis now) but if I have the cast window or score up while the movie runs,when the AVI plays and stops, I can get it to run if I move the score orcast around the screen and when I stop moving the cast or score etc themovie stops again. This is definatly not my video card, because everythingelse works just fine.
