AVI FILE : Are you using the "non-standard" CDR software to make a CD-R, like the onecame with my Sony CD-R drive (i.e., make the CD-R act like a standardharddisk so you could create and delete item as wishes)?i used the hp cd-writer 8100 to create a virtual drive D:\i captured raw video to the C:\ drive. then i rendered an avi file tothe d:\ drive.so maybe the capture software can't write properly to the d: drive.but i think it should work, when i eject the cd disk, the HP cd-writersoftware tells me the disk should now be readable on win98 and win95. i use the hp cd-writer 8100 drive and the accompanying hp software tocreate a drive letter i can write to . i.e. D:\capture device = studio mp 10 video capture box on parallel port..capture software = mp10 accompanying software.compression = indeo video 5.04 . This was the default setting.other choices were indeo video r3.2, cinepak cdec radius. AVI FILE : i captured from the device to the C:\ hard drive.from there, i took this file and from the capture software menu chose" create an avi file. "the software prompted me for a target drive for the avi file and iused the D:\ (my hp cd-r w drive). It took about 30 minutes (or morei think) for the capture sw to create the avi file on the D:\ drive.Could that be the problem? Maybe the capture software can't write tothe D:\drive cd-r properly. But it should work, since at the end I sawone large 500mb avi file on the cd-r disk. I was able to open andplay it with Win98\Media Player. As far as I know, you would also need to install this piece of software (ormaybe a driver or something) on your Win95 too. Otherwise, it would treatthis CD-R as a standard CD-R format (i.e. many small files that you see). AVI FILE : Wow,This is the company, or company shell, that got tied up with Barnsley andthe fractal craze in 1991-2? They poured in millions of bucks, had littlesuccess, then one of their guys (Taylor Kramer - former Iron Butterfly bassplayer) turned up missing, later to be found in a ravine. As I remember, one of the Jackson's was a big investor and they were going to put musicvideos on CD. Later, after I went to Pegasus, I met with Taylor about doingfractal video integration work That was 1993 and the last I heard (otherthan the disappearance) until I saw an article earlier this year on Kramerin a magazine. Here is a summary I found, but there was a ton of links inmy quick Alta-Vista search.I hope they have more success and a better plan this time. I emailed TMMfor more info, but if anyone knows what they are about this time let meknow. AVI FILE : I'm with mark here. Exactly what the hell is this post asking? All I see is a link to a site that has a VERY large AVI clipto down load. Mind you, I have not downloaded the clip as I do nothave 7 or so hours to waste downloading this AVI.If indeed this is a compressed file then it is doubtlessly apoor compression scheme for a clip of 18 (ish) seconds. Futhermore, for this much data for such as short clip, it damned well better havesuperior visual output! If it is not compressed then I have to ask..Why the hell not. It would save me time on the download. Also, for a company (or person) suggesting that there is somesort of advanced compression scheme employed here, I have only onequestion. Why does such a great compression scheme yield such alarge file as a result? And more obviously ... to we compression people, why should sucha "compressed" file be so much further compressed with another schemeas suggested by the original poster? AVI FILE : I don't know what the game is here ... but, this whole post smellsrotten. (or completely ignorant)To get content info you just have to read the first couple of hundredbytes. Then you'll have the details (see my previous posting). As can be seen from the details (and as someone else demonstrated withthe exact numbers) the file is simply uncompressed. The file is obviously not demonstrating a compression technique, butthe surrounding text doesn't claim it does. I don't know its purpose. The original poster talked about someone creating a RealVideo from itfor comparison, not about compressing it further.I think the poster just didn't know about the file, that's it.Yes, Jack, this is Taylor Kramer's company. It's intersting that youknew Taylor Kramer in person. I asked about the AVI file because I'vebeen told that TMMI's technology was used to produce it. But as youcan see it is a rather large file, so the shareholders are scratchingour heads a bit. I have downloaded it and it is the crispest videoI've ever seen, but I am far from an expert so I came here to ask aboutit. A shareholder took that AVI file and compressed it withRealProducer for 56k and got excellent results, far better he claimsthan with any other AVI file he's worked with. Again, I don't know soI came here to ask. I have no ulterior motives here. I made aninvestment in this company, they offer a AVI demo, but I don't have thetechnical expertise to evaluate it. That's all.
