AVI CODECS : What is the deal with AVI's? Why is it so hard to get them to work? All these video programs like Real and Win Media Player claim to beable to run all these formats but they have a problem with most (notall) AVI's. They are always looking for a Codec but never find it.I heard that Codecs are proprietary and therefore not free. That isfine with me, I just wish I could find out where to get them. When Iwas using Win-ME, I found some codecs that permitted me to run AVI'sthat previously would not run. But those codecs will not work nowthat I have XP.Does someone know where the codecs I need for AVI's are available?I sure don't mind paying for them. It might even be a kick to havesome legal software...just kidding. Most likely those are divx avi files. So download divx codec 4.12 from AVI CODECS : Hello:I have a couple of related questions, one very general, one a little more specific.1) I'd appreciate any proven technical tips in getting a Flash movie onto broadcast quality video tape. Some recommend rendering the entire movie as TIFFS, and then running those through Photoshop w/ a one-point blut for interlacing problems, etc. This was the recommended method offered by Flickerlabs, who Macromedia once referred me to. I've also been told to simply render it out as a Quicktime, bring that into Premiere (say), and using Premiere to put it onto the tape.I am trying to export in a format which will import into an Avid system, however--and on a first test, the Avid wouldn't import the Quicktime graphics, only the soundtrack. (I am on a Windows system, by the way).2)I thought that perhaps AVI might be the way to go.As you know, even a short movie is monstorously huge when rendered out in AVI uncompressed format....however, I don't know anything abou the various codecs etc, and thier specifications.I dont want to lose quality.I also want something that an Avid system will accept.So--any advice along any of the above lines would be GREATLY appreciated.--Flash to video, general tips--Flash to (windows) Quicktime, problems therein--Flash to AVI, codecs, avid, general concerns etc. Thanks alot! Will Amato AVI CODECS : Is there any way to add more codecs to 3D Studio Max 3.1? The ones that comewith either don't look good or won't do the resolutions I would like.Thanks.Max uses the codecs installed on your system, they are installed with mediaplayer, I use indeo video 5.11( you can download it via ,high quality, nice colors, but, when it comes to rendering, I would renderseperate images, in case of a crash, you don't have to lose all youre data,or part of it. if you crash, pick te skip finished frames dialog box, in therender menu(its next to net render). hope this helped! Yep, basically max will use any codec you install on your system. For afew good ones, including mpeg layer 1 and 2, do a search on microsoftssite for 'media tools'. I was very impressed with the mpeg avi codec andnow use it a lot. As the above post states, the indego codec is anothergood one. You can also find all the information you need at AVI CODECS : i use theDivX ;) codec. controlable bitrate, smoothness/ crispness control.mediocher quality at 600Kbits/sec but i usually go for 1000-1500kbits asecond. it has great quality and small file sizes. also they are releasing anew version soon. cant wait :) for anyone that dosent have it. GET IT!!! youwill be impressed!I like DivX as well, but not many folks have it yet.......Intel's Indeo 5 ispretty common, and even updates properly thru media player if it is notinstalled on someones system (go figger.....MS product that works asintended). Not as many options as DivX, but fairly tight compression andpretty much universally accessible........ DivX compresses to about 1/2 thesize with comparable image quality, but this varies alot with content (thisinfo from several simple tests at home, so no stats......)Yeah DivX is cool, but so is the MPEG4 codec (I think I got it fromMicrosoft!) - it's compression impressed me, at least. AVI CODECS : I understand that the AVI format used by OS/2's digital video are for theindeo codecs. I recently made an indeo avi from Premiere 4.2, but OS/2couldn't play it. Are there any special audio codecs needed, or is it a varianton indeo (it isn't indeo/QT, is it)?Greg BryantDelta Music Systems, Inc. 254.793.2659(to mail, remove the nospam. header from the return address)--Remove "nospam_" from my email address when replyingTimur "too sexy for my code" Tabi, OS/2page: OS/2 Programming page: Looking for the best OS/2 soundcard?
